When it comes to blending grandeur with creative flair, the Velvet & Linen Photography Workshop held at Wynyard Hall was nothing short of spectacular. This workshop, curated specifically for professional photographers and creatives, was the discovery of the talented team at Velvet & Linen, and led by the brilliant photographers Rosie Davison and Rachel Fraser. We, at Pear Tree Lane, had the honor of providing styling and creative direction for this workshop.
Setting the Scene at Wynyard Hall
Wynyard Hall, with its breathtaking architecture and stunning landscapes, served as the perfect backdrop. Nestled in the heart of County Durham, Wynyard Hall is an iconic venue known for its opulent interiors, majestic gardens, and a rich history that dates back centuries. Its timeless elegance and luxurious charm set the tone for a workshop that aimed to inspire and elevate the creative pursuits of all who attended.
Design Concept: Embracing Textures and Earthy Tones
The design concept for the day revolved around integrating varying textures, focusing heavily on the use of linens, intricate cake designs, and sculptural floral arrangements from the lovely Emma at Highwood Blooms. The colour palette was a soothing blend of earthy and natural tones, creating a harmonious and organic atmosphere that perfectly complemented the grandeur of Wynyard Hall.

Key Elements of the Workshop
– **Cake Display**: The cake display was a focal point, showcasing a beautifully crafted cake that was both a visual and textural masterpiece. The design featured layers of delicate icing that mimicked the soft folds of linen, adorned with edible floral elements – all wonderfully curated by the very talented Joanna from The Orchid Kitchen.
– **Tablescape**: For the tablescape we used a variety of linens, from soft, flowing tablecloths to intricate napkin designs, to create a visually dynamic setup. The table was adorned with lush floral arrangements in muted tones, complemented by rustic candle holders and elegant place settings.
– **Dry Ice Champagne Tower**: Adding a touch of theatricality to the event, the dry ice champagne tower was a show-stopping element. As the dry ice swirled and mingled with the bubbles, it created a mesmerizing effect, capturing the attention and imagination of the photographers and creatives present.
Capturing the Essence
Rosie Davison and Rachel Fraser led the attendees through various photography techniques, focusing on how to capture the intricate details and textures that defined the day’s design. Their expertise and passion were evident as they shared tips and insights, helping participants hone their skills and see the beauty in the subtle nuances of texture and colour.
The Velvet & Linen Photography Workshop at Wynyard Hall was a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the timeless elegance of one of the most stunning venues in the North East. It was a privilege for us at Pear Tree Lane to be a part of this journey, bringing our passion for detail and design to life in such an inspiring setting. We hope that the memories and skills gained from this workshop will continue to inspire and elevate the work of all the talented photographers and creatives who attended.
